Monte Bernardi Fiasco

A modern take on the old Chianti rafia-wrapped flasks (fiasci) churned out in the 'good old days'. I think the rafia was used to help get at the pizza sauce that was stuck behind your nails, although that might just have been me. This recalls those heady days, but leaves your teeth safely intact. Monte Bernardi have become a real force to be reckoned with, outsiders unafraid to forge their own approach, with a firm commitment to biodynamic practice. Their wines are all imbued with a sense of real freshness, with bright, ripe fruit creating a rare combination of dangerous drinkability with at times, moving expressions of their special terroir, in the hear of Panzano.

This is a blend of all sorts, all grown organically, sourced from their own vineyards, as well a few mates down the road, and further afield. The core is Tuscan, with Sangiovese and Canaiolo bolstered by the addition of Monetpulciano from the Abruzzo and Nero d'Avola and Frappato from Sicily. A plush, fun mouthful that slips down so easily, it's just as well it comes in a litre bottle!
