Ca' dei Maghi Valpolicella Ripasso Gold Label

My favourite winery visit of the year was to Ca’ dei Maghi n the beautiful hills of Valpolicella, just outside Verona. Paolo Creazzi is a superstar in the making, with his Amarone the top-scoring wine in a recent Decanter tasting. Amarone would be a bit hefty with this, and would probably finish off Auntie Hilda, but Paolo’s Gold Reserve Ripasso, has the requisite richness, complexity and sensuality fit for the biggest feast of the year. Aged in barrel for 48 months, it’s silky and exotic, with wild herb and sweet spice notes beneath a plush core of black cherry fruit.
